A Declining Economy Taking Its Toll On Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures

With the current economy money is tight and many people are cutting back on their spending, which in turn affects nearly every industry in the United States, and in some cases, the world. The cosmetic surgery industry has hit harder than other industries. This is most likely due tot he fact that most every plastic or cosmetic surgery procedure performed today is considered an elective surgery- or in other words- not a necessary surgery procedure required to maintain life.

Over the past few years, the plastic and cosmetic surgery industry has experienced a steep decline in the number of all procedures performed, but especially the very popular procedures such as Breast enhancement, Body contouring procedures such as liposuction and Abdominoplasty. In reality, it is no real secret why these ever-popular surgical procedures have suddenly become less popular. elective surgeries such as these can cost thousands of dollars, and most people are looking for less expensive solutions for looking younger.

What About Liposuction?

What about liposuction? Is it still a viable option for someone who wants to rid himself or herself of unwanted weight? A good candidate for liposuction is someone who is in fairly good shape, relatively close to his or her ideal weight, but wants to trim down localized areas. The person should be physically healthy, psychologically stable with realistic expectations.

The fat will not re-accumulate in these areas in the same manner as before and leaves small, if any, scars. Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon Dr Boris Ackerman states" I perform hundreds of liposuction procedures each year. I have many patients who come to me after they have given birth and request liposuction. Even though they have returned to their previous weight, many of these women have some resistant areas as a result of the pregnancy."

Tummy Tuck Procedure in La Jolla, CA

Self improvement comes in various forms, from selecting a sensible salad and eschewing the slab-o-steak to powering down the PlayStation and cracking open the Catcher in the Rye. Making time for exercise can improve your health, but more to the point, improved health improves the way you feel generally. That may be why we seek to improve ourselves; it does make us feel better. There are some things we just can't change on our own, though. Some fat deposits, for example, simply refuse to leave their chosen perch no matter how well you eat or exercise. Even after you've evicted the fat, excess skin can remain. That's where help from La Jolla cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Robert Kearney, comes in. Dr. Kearney's San Diego liposuction patients are separated surgically from those tenacious fat deposits, and abdominoplasty can be an excellent way to flatten a tummy that won't respond to diet and exercise.

Although, this is not a proper way to control your weight and is best done to those specific areas of your body that seem to not be affected by dieting or exercise.

What Is Liposuction Surgery, and How Can It Help Me?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure that helps to sculpt the body by removing excess fat from specific areas of the body. Through a small incision, a slim tube is inserted through the incision to remove the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. The cannula is then inserted and moved through the fat layer, breaking up the fat cells and suctioning them through a vacuum pump or a large syringe. Liposuction surgery is not a substitute for dieting and exercise, but it can help with the stubborn areas of fat that do not seem to be affected by normal weight loss methods.
Good candidates for a liposuction procedure are people who are within 30% of their ideal weight and have firm, elastic skin with pockets of excess fat in certain areas. You should be realistic about your expectations and in good physical and mental health. Individuals with certain medical conditions may not be suitable candidates for liposuction surgery - check with your plastic surgeon if you have such a medical condition.

Contemplating Liposuction Surgery in Pasadena, CA

Liposuction Glendale - The first decade of this century has seen an impressive jump in the number of cosmetic procedures Glendale Plastic Surgeon performed in the U.S. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there were over 10 million surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2008, compared to just over 2 million in 1997. Hardly. Especially where cosmetic surgery is concerned, no matter how common the procedure, there is always the unique aspect of the patient. Following Liposuction Surgery, Most People Have Very Little Pain

Before you receive a liposuction procedure, your plastic surgeon will carefully outline the areas of bulging fat that are to be suctioned. He or she will then draw detailed contour lines in order to further define the contour and shape characteristics of the deposits of fat. Plastic surgeons will use the "tumescent technique" in which a large amount of fluid will be initially placed to swell the area. This technique will allow for fat to be removed in a very smooth, safe, and symmetrical manner. The fluid is able to help loosen the fat while providing a local anesthesia for operative and immediate post-operative discomfort. It will also be able to provide epinephrine which is capable of decreasing bleeding.

Liposuction Can Do A Lot For Your Appearance

If you have recently gone through dramatic weight loss and still seem to have troubles getting rid of the fat in certain problem areas of your body then there is a procedure that is perfect for you.

Liposuction is a procedure that aspirates the fat from your body by using a hollow instrument called a cannula that is connected to a negative pressure machine or a syringe.

Liposuction is very safe when done by an experienced plastic surgeon and it often goes very well with other procedures like abdominoplasty, facelift surgery, body lifts, arm lifts or Breast Reduction and breast lift surgeries.

For anyone looking to learn more about this procedure here is a page I found that should be very useful in teaching more about Liposuction.

What About Liposuction?

What about liposuction? Is it a realistic option for a person who wants to rid him or herself of unwanted weight? Not necessarily. Liposuction surgery is not intended, nor should it be used as a replacement for proper diet and exercise. A good candidate for liposuction surgery is in good overall shape, within 10-20 lbs of his or her ideal weight, and wants to treat the stubborn pockets of fat that are not responding to a regular diet and exercise regimen.

The person should be healthy, both physically and psychologically with realistic expectations about the results of the surgery procedure. The fat removed during a liposuction surgery procedure will not re-accumulate in the treated areas in the same manner as it did prior to the surgery, and in some cases, may leave small scars.

It is popular for women see a plastic surgeon and request liposuction surgery after childbirth. These women have returned to their pre-pregnancy weight, and have some areas of their body with stubborn fat as a result of the pregnancy. Many of these women also find that post pregnancy exercise and diet do not effectively treat the pockets of fat. One common place where many women retain fat is around the outer hips and thighs. These women are ideal candidates because the fat is localized, and is less difficult to remove the fat and sculpt the surrounding area to create the contour the patient desires.

A Compression Garment Will Be Recommended By Your Plastic Surgeon After Liposuction

After liposuction surgery, the patient will be able to go home with a compression garment that covers the areas that have been treated. Compression of the areas where liposuction has been performed is recommended for about a month since it will help reduce swelling after the procedure. Once the soreness and pain decrease, it's frequently more comfortable to wear spandex or lycra exercise pants. Initial discomfort from the liposuction surgery will be easily controlled through the use of oral medication. Swelling and bruising will typically subside in two to four weeks with final results taking shape over two to three months.

A Safer Removal Of Fat Is Allowed By Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction Performed By A Cosmetic Surgeon

The use of UAL by plastic surgeons allows for a safer removal of larger amounts of fat than that of a standard liposuction procedure. This increase in safety is accredited to the smaller amount of blood that needs to be removed with UAL. This means that UAL procedures can be very useful to someone who is moderately overweight even though it is not a weight loss procedure. Ultrasound assisted liposuction was created to improve the proportions and contour of the treated areas, resulting in a more flattering figure or physique.

What You Should Know About Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most popular aesthetic plastic surgery procedures performed. That fact is not too surprising considering some fat deposits are quite resistant to diet and exercise. In women, the hips thighs and abdomen are stubborn. In men, the abdomen and lower back are commonly problematic. Liposuction is a safe and effective way to remove these unwanted fatty prominences.

There are so many different types of liposuction surgery available now; it can be confusing trying to determine what the best choice for you might be. Liposuction can be broken down in to two major types. Those that include the use of energy such as laser or ultrasound to remove the fat, and those that rely on the plastic surgeons own efforts to remove the fat.

Some surgeons are strong believers in avoiding the use of energy to remove fat. These modalities create heat in the tissues and in some studies have been shown to have increased complication rates, including burns and contour deformities. New research is supporting that it is important to leave healthy fat behind to assist in healing and to obtain better contouring. This newer data supports the decision to use the super-wet liposuction in many plastic surgeon's practices. This method utilizes fluid being placed into the fatty deposits with a small tube, and then the excess fat is suctioned away utilizing small tubes that are inserted and operated by the surgeon without the use of heat or ultrasound energy. The fluid that is instilled contains medications that decreases blood loss and provides anesthetic to the area for better post-operative comfort.

Many patients request the least down-time possible and consequently inquire about avoiding anesthesia. Performing these procedures under local anesthesia limits the amount of fat that can be removed and adequate comfort can be difficult to insure. Other patients inquire about the use of fat dissolving chemicals that can be injected while the patient is awake. These substances are not FDA approved, and no long term follow-up data on performance, efficacy or safety is available. Additionally, repeated treatments are required and the results that have been seen are frequently inadequate.

Non Invasive Procedures Are Becoming More Popular

With economy in its current state, many are reducing their spending, which affects almost every industry in the United States. The Cosmetic and plastic surgery industry has seen a bigger drop off than most other industries and this is due to the fact that most every plastic or cosmetic procedure available is to be considered an elective surgical procedure, and are not deemed necessary to a healthy lifestyle.

Recent trends have shown a quite noticeable reduction of the most popular plastic surgery procedures - Breast Augmentation surgery, Body contouring procedures such as liposuction and tummy tuck surgery, and face lift surgery have all seen a decline in the overall number of these procedures performed. Of Course is no secret why these popular procedures have recently become less popular. All of these elective surgery procedures can cost thousands of dollars, and most people interested in finding beauty through cosmetic surgery are now looking for less expensive solutions for looking younger.

Liposuction Is One of The Most Popular Procedures Today

One of the most popular procedures today, liposuction is designed to eliminate fatty deposits in various areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks or neck. This is not a weight loss procedure but rather a sculpting of areas that are refractory to dieting and exercise. During the tumescent liposuction procedure, fluid is injected into the tissue to improve the efficiency of fat removal and to decrease the blood loss. Then, a cannula connected to a vacuum pump is inserted through a small 1/4” incision in a normal skin fold, and the area is suctioned. Today, advanced techniques using ultrasonic and power assisted cannulas have enhanced results. This procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis, and the patient can resume normal activities within a week's time, but must refrain from exercising and sports for three weeks postoperatively.

Patients who desire liposuction surgery usually are seeking to reduce the size of a protruding fat deposits throughout the body. This procedure is best for individuals who are seeking to reduce fat deposits and are in relatively good health. Age is not a factor in liposuction, except that older patients' skin may not be as elastic and may not yield the same result as a person with more elastic skin. Eliminating these deposits may also affect an individual's confidence, leading them to seek their own Liposuction surgery procedure.

A liposuction can help such individuals restore a thinner and fitter looking contour to their bodies. The specified portion of the body is made smaller to better match the shape of the patient. The plastic surgeon accomplishes this by removing excess fat through a vacuuming procedure. This not only helps to restore the physical appearance of the patient, but also restores self-confidence and respect to the patient.

Liposuction is a very individualized procedure in which your goals should be realistically determined and discussed with your plastic surgeon. Together you will determine what specific procedures will be performed. Liposuction is often performed in conjunction with other procedures such as abdominoplasty to achieve an effect that better matches the proportions of the body. Once your goals have been determined you will set a date for this procedure and will be given instructions about how to prepare.

What is the Difference Between a Full Tummy Tuck and a Mini-Tummy Tuck?

Tummy Tuck surgery, also known as Abdominoplasty surgery, is a surgical procedure in which the loose skin of the stomach area is removed and the muscles of the abdominal area are tightened. While a strict exercise and diet plan will help most people firm their stomach, which in turn helps them to feel and look better, some problems, such as protruding belly, loose or hanging skin, and weak muscles on both men and women can be improved with this surgical procedure. Every year, more than 80,000 women and men across the U.S. elect to have a tummy tuck surgery procedure. Women and men who have a protruding belly, loose or hanging abdominal skin and weak abdominal muscles are all excellent candidates for the full tummy tuck surgery procedure. A Mini-Abdominoplasty surgery, commonly referred to as a mini-tummy tuck, is a procedure that can be performed on patients who have a smaller or limited amount of loose skin and/or stretch marks in the lower abdomen, and do not need the normal tightening of abdominal muscles as in a full abdominoplasty surgery procedure. However, if the patient has excessive fat but minimal or limited looseness of the abdominal wall, the procedure may be performed in along with a liposuction procedure.
Women that plan to become pregnant should not have this surgery procedure, because a second procedure may be required in order to re-tighten the belly after pregnancy. In most cases, abdominoplasty surgery removes the stretch marks inherent with pregnancy, because this procedure removes most of the "stretched out" skin below the navel.

The procedure slims and contours different areas of the body by removing the excess fat. Liposuction does not treat loose or sagging skin. In some cases, liposuction is performed alone, in other cases it is used with procedures such as a breast reduction/lift or a tummy tuck, which can reduce sagging skin. Abdominoplasty Utah - A tummy tuck operation involves making an incision that falls along the natural skin creases of the lower abdomen, usually correlating with the bikini line. From there, the skin is lifted away from the abdomen, creating a flap. Depending on the patient's individual situation, the navel may be repositioned, fat may be liposuctioned away, and excess skin is excised, or cut away. Scarring is minimized as much as possible by the incision's being located in a natural crease, and by the application of vitamins and adhesives, but a scar is to be expected whenever there is an incision.

Utah cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Kimball Crofts, also reminds potential patients that planned future pregnancies and certain medical conditions can make the procedure unsafe. The best way to know for sure if you are a good candidate for this procedure is in a personal consultation with your surgeon.

For Many People Who Have Lost A Large Amount Of Weight, There's No Diet Or Exercise That Can Restore Their Former Body

The majority of candidates for brachioplasty are those who have lost massive weight following Bariatric Surgery, also known as "stomach stapling" or "lap banding." According to the website of an Atlanta plastic surgeon, even though these patients will be able to reap many psychological and health related benefits from this weight loss surgery, one of the after effects is sagging skin that hangs down from areas of the body such as the arms. Because the skin has lost its elasticity following years of obesity, no amount of diet or exercise can restore firmness and tone to the arms.

Eyelid Surgery in Lindon, UT

Eyelid Surgery in UtahDuring the aging process, wrinkles, lines, and puffiness around the eyes contribute to a tired or aged appearance. Since the eyes are among the first things noticed about a person, it stands to reason that, whether the eyes look old and tired or young and energetic, judgments about the eyes will extend to the person. Eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty) is a procedure performed to give the eyes a visual pick-me-up.

Dr. Kimball Crofts performs blepharoplasty in Utah. The procedure involves small incisions in the natural contours around the eyes where any scars will be less noticeable. Fatty tissue is removed and loose skin is tightened, sometimes using laser technology to smooth the lower lids. If you are considering cosmetic surgery in Utah, you want to arrange a consultation with Dr. Crofts to discuss your goals and what can be done to help you reach them.

Body Contouring can Return a Part of You That Has Faded

Liposuction is one of the most frequently performed procedures. Localized fat pockets, resistant to exercise and diet, can be eliminated. The areas of the body of such accumulated fat pockets often include the hips, thighs, abdomen, neck , arms, and breasts. The best candidates are near normal weight people with elastic skin who desire an improved contour change. This procedure is usually performed under general or local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The incisions are placed in specific areas to provide the optimal contouring and aesthetic result. A fitted compression garment will be worn for about 3 to 4 weeks. Activity may be resumed in about 3 weeks and the final results will be apparent in about 3 months.

Improve The Appearanc Of Your Body Contours With Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure performed to improve the appearance of your body contours. It can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that do not respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

There are technical variations to the basic liposuction techniques. Our surgeons are highly experienced and can remove the fat, but it is not what is removed that matters - it is the shape that you leave the body in after the fat is gone that counts. Liposuction techniques, together with an excellent artistic vision make our surgeons the right individuals to help you achieve the body contours you have always dreamed of.

The best candidates for liposuction are normal-weight people with firm, elastic skin who have pockets of excess fat in certain areas. You should be physically healthy, psychologically stable and realistic in your expectations. Your age is not a major consideration, but older patients may have diminished skin elasticity and may not achieve the same results as a younger patient with tighter skin.

Liposuction Creates Proportion and Balance

The most commonly suctioned areas are the neck (underneath the chin), tummy, waist, love handles, hips, saddle bags, inner thighs, knees, and, infrequently, the ankles. During the procedure you are completely awake, allowing you to lie down and stand up. Everyone is aware that their body appears differently when they are standing vs. lying, and by having you stand your surgeon can more accurately sculpt your body's proportions. Pre-operative valium will help minimize any anxiety and discomfort you may feel. A special tumescent solution will be injected. This will numb the area as well as put fluid around the fat cells so they are more easily removed.

Facelift Information

The neck lift procedure is designed for people who have excess fat around the neck, but have good skin tone and are not yet ready for a full face-neck lift. This operation includes liposuction of the neck, manual removal of fat underneath the muscles and tightening of the neck muscles under the chin. Excess skin cannot be removed with this procedure. If excess skin is the problem then a full face-neck lift should be done.

A one inch incision is placed just under the chin, and the skin is elevated off of the fat and muscle. A 3mm cushion of fat is left on the skin, and then liposuction is used to remove all of the remaining fat down to the muscle. De-fatting the neck is also done by manually removing fat from underneath the platysma muscle. Once the fat is removed, the muscles are tightened and any neck cords are released.

The incision is then closed with 3-4 sutures. Drains are also used to remove any excess fluid or blood and are removed in 1 or 2 days after the surgery.

Are There Different Liposuction Techniques?

Though the basics of liposuction remain the same, there are different techniques that can be used during liposuction. "Tumescent Liposuction" During this technique the plastic surgeon will inject a medicated solution into the fatty areas before the fat is removed. The solution is a mixture of intravenous salt water, a local anesthetic (lidocaine) and a drug that contracts the blood vessels (epinephrine). This fluid injection helps the fat to be removed more easily, reduces blood loss and bruising after surgery, and provides anesthesia during and after the surgery. The amount of fluid injected varies and depends on the preference of the surgeon. "Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL) This technique requires the use of a special cannula that produces ultrasonic energy. As the ultrasonic energy passes through the areas of fat it causes the fat cells to liquefy. The fat is then removed with the traditional liposuction technique. Because the fat is liquid at the time that it is removed, UAL is smoother and mechanically more efficient. UAL also minimizes trauma, resulting in less bruising and blood loss and especially improves the ease and effectiveness of liposuction in fibrous areas of the body. Liposuction is One of Today's Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures

This body contouring procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis, and the patient can resume normal activities within a week's time, but must refrain from exercising and sports for three weeks postoperatively.

Remove Localized Fat Deposits with Liposuction

Liposuction can remove localized fat deposits from almost any area of the body. Many plastic surgeons use an "ultrasonic" technique, during which sound waves liquefy fat cells before liposuction begins. This allows the elimination of more tissue, especially in difficult to treat areas such as "love handles" and the upper abdomen. Ultrasound breaks up fibrous tissue in the fat, and gives smoother results than with other types of liposuction.
By injecting saline, anesthetic solution and epinephrine during liposuction ("tumescent" liposuction), bruising is minimized. Incisions for liposuction are small and easily hidden.

Liposuction: The Procedure

Many plastic surgeons use a "tumescent technique." After the induction of general anesthesia or intravenous sedation, a large volume, up to several quarts, of very dilute local anesthetic is injected into the areas to be treated. There is a tiny dose of adrenaline in the fluid as well, which makes the blood vessels in the area clamp down. This prevents perhaps 95% of the blood loss that would otherwise occur during liposuction.
Thin hollow stainless steel tubes are placed through short (perhaps 1/4") incisions in the area treated and are used to suction away the appropriate amount of fat. Sheets of lightweight foam are placed on the treated areas, and a compression garment, like a corset, is placed. Bruising is usually scant.

Get Rid of Stubborn Fat with Liposuction

While plastic surgeons encourage approaching liposuction from a state of good health, diet and exercise, they can effectively remove stubborn areas of fat that won't respond in any other way. Through a very tiny incision, which can be concealed, a plastic surgeon will place a tube deep beneath the skin. With a combination of ultrasound energy and suction, a plastic surgeon can remove and sculpt fatty layers. The liposuction they perform is usually circumferential which will tailor the area front to back and avoid any irregularities. Afterwards a compression garment or girdle will help control swelling and provide comfort while the skin shrinks and the bruising resolves.

What can Liposuction do for You?

A liposuction can help individuals restore a thinner and fitter looking contour to their bodies. The specified portion of the body is made smaller to better match the shape of the patient. Plastic Surgeons accomplish this by removing excess fat through a vacuuming procedure. This not only helps to restore the physical appearance of the patient, but also restores self-confidence and respect to the patient.

Get rid of excess weight from your thighs!

The thighs tend to be an area of the body that is often overlooked but one that can greatly benefit from Plastic Surgery. The thighs can be affected by both redundant skin and an over-accumulation of fatty deposits. There are many reasons why the thighs undergo these changes. The thighs are one area of the body that is particularly prone to fat build-up and deterioration in skin quality. During the aging process, the skin loses elasticity, retaining ligaments stretch and gravity takes its toll. Thigh skin is especially prone to these changes as it is naturally thinner than skin found elsewhere in the body. Weight gain also plays a roll in this process as the added skin tension further stretches and thins the skin. The problem can become quite noticeable with significant weight loss. Sun exposure and cigarette smoking can also be major contributors to the problem. A Thigh Lift could be the solution.
